Title: IoT & 5G: Opportunities and Technologies
Abstract: The Internet of Things is driving a rapid transformation in many industry segments, optimizing and automating manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and smart cities. This brings about a strong increase in the number of connected devices: by 2022 the number of IoT devices is forecasted to reach 18 billion, exceeding the 11 billion traditional devices expected by then. This talk is going to take you through the use cases behind this transformation, and introduce you to the 5G technologies that the mobile industry is developing to address the new opportunities and challenges this transformation presents to the communications infrastructure.
Gergely Seres is currently serving as Expert and Chief Architect of Software Technology at Business Area Digital Services R&D in Ericsson. He received his PhD degree from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. During his 19+ years at Ericsson, he has held various positions in research, system engineering, line and product management. He has extensive experience in telecom solutions, carrier grade software systems, and model based software engineering. His current focus is on the area of the Internet of Things.

Title: System configuration, dynamic reconfiguration and upgrade - Modeling at rescue
Abstract: Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is becoming a widely accepted paradigm for software development. However, very little has been achieved in software management, like software configuration, dynamic reconfiguration, upgrade, etc. In this presentation we will introduce and discuss the challenges of software configuration, dynamic reconfiguration, upgrade, especially under the constraint of high availability, a common requirement for carrier grade services. We discuss how model driven methods can help in tackling these challenges.
Ferhat Khendek received his PhD from University of Montreal, Canada. He is a full professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Concordia University where he also holds since 2011 the NSERC/Ericsson Senior Industrial Research Chair in Model Based Software Management, a major collaboration between Ericsson and Concordia University. Ferhat Khendek‘s research interests are in model based software systems engineering and management, formal methods, validation and testing, and service engineering and architectures.
